Hairdryerdropper
The hair dryer dropper looks to a domestic situation that is enforced through outside ‘evidence’. Films, media, and so on enforce our understanding of the consequences of the action of dropping electrical items in the bath. I am not interested in disproving or disputing the consequences, my interest lays in the ‘build up’ of the situation, and the fear or aura surrounding it.
This object is unprovable, and it brings questions to light that concern fear and the perception of actions. I am interested in the ‘bottling’ of this perception and fear. The object requires you to slowly lower the hair dryer, with all the evidence given pointing to an eventuality of the user being electrocuted. It is important to note however that the object is never intended to be fully realised- the function is not to electrocute- rather it’s function is to create an uncomfortable situation that generates unrest, discourse and dialogue.
