Eco e Narciso

Eco e Narciso is a project which was exhibited in Turin in July 2008. The project is a live brief led by Nadine Jarvis, and Jo Harrington, working alongside Louisa Cranmore, Alon Grosz, and Stephan Bischoff.

The work originated after spending a week in the Italian mountains in a small mountain village with a water bottling plant. Whilst in the mountain we worked as a group to explore the lifestyle, culture and also the potential of the materials we were presented with.

The company were very aware that their business and the act of bottling water was fairly unsustainable, however they were interested in finding ways in which they could improve upon this.

Introducing analog processes:

And “Bottle story”

I became interested in the idea of aging; looking at erosion and the rings on a tree building over time. This was contradictory to the mass produced nature in which they were bottling the water to ship elsewhere. I wanted to demonstrate and critique the disposability of these objects, by attempting to establish a narrative between the factory and the consumer through the bottle.

The bottle makes a note of it’s re-use, where the bottle’s meaning is changed or it’s form is adjusted to demonstrate it’s re-use each time it passes through the cycle.
