The End of Made in 24hrs

30-09-2008

I have been trying to write a post about this for a long time now, I am still completely scrambled in my head as to how this has been, or whether it has been worthwhile. I was talking to a friend today and I only just realised that the whole thing has been worth it, afterall my life has been a mess for weeks now, and I am still trying to pin down what we actually achieved, and whether it fulfilled what we wanted to achieve.

I think that my only bad feeling towards it at the moment is that there weren’t as many people as i would have liked who came to see the exhibition; this is true mostly of people in the design profession (we had hundreds of people looking at it, but not many for the LDF) I only say this because we wanted to try to critique or ask people to discuss the design festival, and consider if it was working or not, and I think that required more people to truly start that debate/dialogue.

I got an email this morning from Anna Bates from Icon Magazine…

I was pretty surprised she got back to me, but more surprised Anna had heard of the project… Also a little pissed off… This would have been a perfect thing for us; have our litttle exhibition written about in Icon, and I think would be a necessary thing in getting people to talk. I guess we had some press and have received some bits and pieces on the internet, so it’s spreading; I’m feeling positive we can do some more too. It seems as though the success of the project now relies on other people talking, which is impossible to judge.

That aside, i think we did pretty well, as a first event, and a low budget one at that, I don’t think we fucked up. I guess we didn’t have it easy either; only being able to afford a space that was outside, having to build a tent with no money, getting materials for free, and all the rest.

I guess I should think about it conceptually too at some point, all I seem to be considering is the practical issues. I’ll leave that for now.
